Basic charger that doesn't deliver

Bought this charger to revive/service a couple of batteries. The charger quickly overheated the next day and smelled like burnt plastic and was sent back. Some cons besides quality issues: The temperature sensor is next to the batteries, so if the charger gets hot the temperature reading will rise (up to 30C in my case). fall, which is about 85 F, and the charger was in the range of 68-70 F), and the charger goes into "summer" mode. The mode "button" appears to be a capacitive sensor and reacts remotely, even if you hold the charger case inside there's no real current limiter. I've seen the charger show a charge current of over 9A while it's rated at 8A (hence overheating). This charger is constant voltage, not constant current. When the battery is fully charged, the charger rotates. off, no swimmer. Wires look thinner than required for 8A DC Clips are weak. When the clamps are connected to the battery, the second clamp will sparkle violently when connected to the battery (the charger appears to be battery powered and will display battery voltage even with no AC), this is a definite fire/explosion hazard. There are no obvious benefits, the charger can work well for occasional charging if someone is looking for a cheaper option. For smaller (motorcycle) batteries there is a mode in which the current is limited to 1.5 A. The ad is quite informative.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Almost ok
