Review on πŸ’» MSI AMD 990FX DDR3 2133 AMD - AM3+ Motherboard 990FXA-GD65 V2: Superior Performance and Speed by Ronald Reese

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Expected features are hard to get

Pros: 1. Good build2. Clear the CMOS on the back panel, do not open the case3. boots relatively fast 4. Some pins have been provided to make Power+HDD LED/Power button etc., which simplifies the installation of Cons1. I bought this MB thinking I could overclock. I have the exact same chipset/processor in 2 other Gigabyte UD3 MBs so this is my 3rd build with FX990 chipset + FX8350 processor. With the Gigabyte MB, I overclocked it to 4.4 GHz with no voltage change and to 4.8 GHz with about 10% voltage increase without any problems. But my exp. It's a disaster with this motherboard in terms of overclocking. I have to admit that I'm not very good at overclocking. All I know is that I need to increase the multiplier, and if it's unstable/failed, increase the voltage. I have used this knowledge and my success is zero. The car becomes very unstable after accelerating under full load. In my case liquid cooler and 5 fans, temp. That's not a problem. I'm sure overclocking is possible, but since it's not that easy, I have to warn others.2. The BIOS is graphical, but confusing in some places, I didn't like it at all. Not very responsive with mouse, easily misses clicks.3. I can charge in my Gigabyte MB via USB even when it's turned off, oddly this isn't the case with this MSI MB. I don't know if I missed this setting. All in all, I'm considering returning this and getting something else due to instability issues.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
