Good news, bad news

First off, the good news is that these hinges are a perfect replacement for the hinges that were installed when our kitchen was redone 13 years ago. The old hinges were stamped 110 on the metal, but the plastic on the back had a different code: 30.310-11.02. The new 33.3600 hinges look identical, fit perfectly in the existing holes and mate perfectly with the metal parts on the cabinet frame. Replacing the loop took about 90 seconds. The bad news is that the new hinge shares the same metal and plastic construction as the old hinge, and the piece of black plastic on the hinge pin appears to be the weak link in this design. When the hinges fail, it's always because the plastic tears at that point and a small bent piece of plastic comes loose. After that, the hinge still works, but every time it closes, it makes a loud popping noise. We had this on several loops. The same thing happened with the hinges on my parents' cabinets, which are a different brand but similar zinc and plastic construction. This design seems popular, but it has drawbacks - zinc hinges last forever, but plastic seems to fail after about seven years. Thanks for the metal and plastic design, but kudos to Blum for maintaining the physical characteristics to allow easy, quick and inexpensive replacement of the hinges should they fail.
