This simple item has helped me brew one of the most delicious coffees I've ever made, and I admit I'm very picky about my coffee! Here are my recommendations for use: 1) finely grind the coffee beans; This helps control the water flow rate through the filter. If the grinding is too coarse, you will get a weak infusion. Iki. 2) As stated on the packaging, this item is dishwasher safe. While most of the time I just empty it and rinse it with hot water, I've had good results in the dishwasher as well, but ONLY after learning how to thoroughly rinse the stainless steel filter before use. The mesh is dense enough to filter out finely ground coffee - which is good - but it also serves to trap a significant amount of soap scum. Doubly ugly. 3) As always, you need to experiment with proportions to your liking. My personal favorite is 3 tablespoons of finely ground coffee per 10 ounces of water just below boiling point.
