Review on SS 107 Stainless Steel Toenail Clipper by Mary Freedom

They just don't make them like they used to!

Bought an SS-106 nail clipper about 15 years ago and has served our family very well. I decided to get a second one and a SS-107 toenail clipper because kids kept losing it and I didn't want to lose a great tool. Was disappointed when I received both devices. 2 main issues: First, it seems that both new devices don't match the top and bottom of the blades as perfectly as they did on the original SS-106. Rather than "split" the nail for a clean cut, the offset of the blade is "cut off". " The nail is held at an angle, "pulling" the top and bottom layers of the nail until the shear forces overcome the strength of the nail, resulting in an uneven cut with a VERY sharp edge. The displaced parts of the blade are shown in the photo with red arrows (the ideal old hair clipper is the left one). You may need to enlarge the photo to see what I mean. Second, the original nail clipper SS-106 had a rough surface (upper moving part) that was ideal for filing nails by rubbing them into the 3 grooves on the handle. . Unfortunately, the new pliers have a smooth, almost shiny surface that does not allow them to be used as a nail file (yellow circles in the photo). I am returning both devices. They just don't make them like they used to!

Pros
  • Also suitable for older people; This is a great thick toenail clipper for the elderly as the ergonomic design is easy to use; less likely to slip; Perfect for those with arthritis and grip problems
Cons
  • Large and bulky
