Review on Shapton Glass Stone 8000 Grit - Superior High-Performance Sharpening Tool by Edwin White

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's great if you have a lapping plate

I mainly use diamond whetstones and I really like them (400, 1200, 4000). A friend suggested sharpening to a finer grit so I gave this Shapton 8000 a try. Very pleased with the results, plus the shiny finish on the blade felt nice to the touch. So I borrowed 1000 and 5000 grit Shapton stones, tried them with a couple of chisels and finished them with the 8000 grit reviewed here. sharp and reflective surfaces that I've never seen before. I'm impressed with the result. One thing - I used my 400 diamond brick as a lap. Shapton stones are dirtier but give a good result, but you have to level the stone (at least with planer knives) about every 10 minutes, but diamond stones did their job. Ideal for final polishing and honing.
