For years I've carried a small yellow probe thermometer in my chef's sleeve pocket, they usually die after the third time, forgotten and thrown in the wash cart. Let's just say this one doesn't fit in my breast pocket, which is a good thing. This time, when it came time to replace all those little yellow thermometers for me and the kitchen staff, I got tired of spending all that money and gave this one a try. The great thing about this thermometer is that it is magnetic and also has velcro to attach it to the side of the fridge or anywhere else. It's big enough to be seen easily and I bought three to hang in different strategic places where my restaurant needs them the most. No more leaving staff at home, no running around the washing machine and, above all, when the health inspector comes, a top-functioning thermometer is there where it belongs. I've used it to find out if my fryers were overcalibrated and it will save me the expense of three thermometers over the next month and give me at least a day more twice a week before I need to change the oil in my fryer . fryers. I've only had it a week so can't really rate the durability or battery life just yet, but in my job, batteries are always on hand anyway. That's the least of my worries. So far I like it very much. In my opinion, with over 40 years of professional culinary experience, you will not spend money on this thermometer.
