It takes some effort to get consistent accuracy.

I purchased this knowing that some people may find it a little inaccurate. However, the inaccuracy with the unit of measurement changed too much for me each time. I figured I could compensate for this by simply adding or subtracting the appropriate temperature difference with each use. But every time I measured the same object, it appeared. varies by up to 8°C in either direction from the initial reading. I am returning this one and ordering another one. If I spend more money on another brand with better reviews, I might stumble upon a higher quality device. (Update) I figured out how to make the thermometer more accurate by adjusting the EMS setting. EMS settings for different materials. If the object or area being measured doesn't match anything on this list, you have no way of knowing if it's accurate. EMS for accurate temperature reading. I bought this IR reader to check temperature fluctuations on my 3D printer. So luckily I can use the printer's temperature readings to calibrate it for the type of printing surface I'm using. If you use this for all kinds of materials, you may encounter some inaccuracies. If you don't know what EMS settings you need for different items. I don't think it will look like a normal thermometer. You have to work with it to get consistent accuracy. You can't just point and shoot a laser at anything and everything and get decent accuracy without adjustment. more often yes than no.
