We bought this replacement filter kit (filter + charcoal filter) a few months ago to have on hand when the Winix air filter gauge shows we need to replace the filter. The filter light went out a few days ago so we replaced the filter and carbon filter. Moments after installing this filter and a new carbon filter, our room smelled like someone sprayed our whole room with Black Flag fly spray! bad! :( We thought it was just an activated carbon filter so we replaced it with one of the original Winix filters. The horrible smell persisted. Then we read several reviews mentioning the same thing. We couldn't return the item, since we ordered it so long ago we unplugged the air purifier until revain prime put in a genuine Winix branded replacement filter and activated carbon filters yes the winix branded filters are a bit more expensive but it's worth it no smell and none Don't worry that you inhale something bad for your health!
