Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Buddy Microphones Amigo Cobra USB Desktop Microphone – Enhanced with FilteredAudio Technology and Vibrant Green Design (ISA12015) by Jump Robinson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good directivity, terrible sound quality

Good things first. The microphone is very directional. It has good sensitivity to the mic, but as the sound source moves away from the front of the mic, the sensitivity decreases until you hear almost nothing when the source is at a 90 degree angle to the front of the mic. . There seems to be a slight sensitivity jump in the opposite direction (meaning it's a hypercardioid mic, I think). Now for the bad: the sound quality is terrible. The internal sample rate is just 22.5kHz right off the bat, meaning you won't hear anything above 10kHz. But even worse, there seems to be a lot of audio compression. If you're listening with headphones in a quiet room, you'll hear a constant madness in the background, as if using MP3 compression with an incredibly low bitrate. But to make matters worse, there's incredibly crude automatic gain control, so the recorded signal will suddenly drop to a lower level and rise from there as the audio slowly gets louder. If the sound keeps getting louder, it will do so again, resulting in a stepping effect. Also, the sound quality will get even worse after these steps. So if you've been using this as a source for a hands-free system, you'll probably be fine. However, if you're thinking of podcasting with this mic, get ready to be ridiculed by anyone with ears.
