The system has many options and functions that we do not use. Best of all, the phone will continue to work without a power source IF you have a phone company outlet (an old-fashioned traditional wall plug). The phone uses the phone company's capacity to make and receive calls. NONE of the other functions will work without a commercial power supply. I also had some issues with the system crashing and not working. Could be something to do with phone company power/signal. I do not know. This is the second system as the first didn't work right away. the exchange was done very quickly.
