I read the customer reviews and was very surprised how few people know how to check silver grade. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% any metal the manufacturer chooses to add. Usually this is copper, steel, nickel etc. This means the real pound sterling can be somewhat magnetic. The magnet test is definitely not a reliable or good method of verification! The only safe way is nitric acid. I suggest testing 2-3 times to check the results, which I did! I have reviewed thousands of silver items as part of my vintage jewelry and scrap metal business. I acid tested these earrings and they were sterling silver. You are the real deal! They turn bright red when exposed to nitric acid. Acid tests have also shown them to be high in copper, which explains why people are allergic to it. They are sterling silver but low quality sterling silver. Customers who leave reviews say they can't be sterling because they cause allergic reactions. Of course, one doesn't respond to sterling silver in the same way. 7.5% is a Chinese junk metal gambling mix. If you are really sensitive, you should buy 99.9% sterling silver hooks. You have to pay more but get a cleaner product. Sterling silver is not a guarantee for allergy sufferers. In general, I think anyone buying a large quantity of sterling hooks should test them out before reselling them. Nitric acid is cheap - you can buy it at Revain for less than $10. This way you can be sure that you will not be scammed and/or passed on to other people with counterfeit silver. Be a conscious and skeptical consumer! In terms of functionality, I think these hook earrings will work just fine. I bought these to restore vintage kits and have no problem selling them to my customers.
