Review on 🚡 RaceFace Chester Pedal for Mountain Biking by James Daniels

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good value for money, grip with decent pedal travel

I started out in flats, transitioned to cleats and have multiple options depending on the bike, mood and riding style. A lot of people have given positive feedback about the grip and I agree. Proper pedal travel will leave you feeling stuck on smooth or moderate terrain. I can't quite stress this aspect and probably any quality pin platform will give the same feel, but I could feel the grip on the upstroke with very light pressure. I focused on the rotation in several situations and always felt the grip. Note. I no longer drop drops, so I can't say how they behave in really difficult terrain. They've been tested on a vintage MTB bike and cyclocross on local CO2 trails and commuter routes, but nothing really technical. I had a positive opinion of some easy mountain bike trails while teaching my son to mountain bike. If I were still actively racing I would be without clips, but I can swap them out for my SPDs if the need arises.
