Review on Samlex SAM 250 12 12 Volt 250 Watt Inverter by Dustin Wright

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Keep shopping, this is rubbish.

I received my second unit in the mail yesterday. Great inverters. I have tested almost every small portable solar generator inverter that I have developed for future sale. Every other inverter tested averaged half the advertised efficiency, most of them had low surge capacity, and some couldn't even handle the constant power they were supposed to have. This Samlex performed better than anything I tested in the 200-400w range. Of course after I upgraded the factory wiring from 14 AWG to 10. I used a 250w heater with a 50ah battery for a few hours, it started the hotel fridge and turned it on so the surge was actually listed correctly and I even checked the efficiency was 3% higher than the advertised 90% . That's a lot for a small inverter. It also ran my lithium battery chargers, modified sine wave and everything else. should be clean enough. Turn it on and it will check the fan for a short time, return to standby mode and run quietly unless a load greater than 5-10W is applied. ideal for small stand-alone systems. Five stars from a guy with LOTS of experience counting amps and volts on small to large solar powered inverters. 4 month update: Well I started out happy and now I'm pretty upset. I bought 4 of these 250 watt inverters and 2 of them are junk. completely stopped working. USB works but no AC. Not only that, but by default Hz remained fairly stable at 60, and now they all operate in the 62-64.5 Hz range. Performance dropped sharply on all four after about a month. Out of the box they are beautiful and work great but fade quickly. Save money and get pure sine. microsolar and CNBOU are inexpensive brands, but both are much higher quality. cleaner, more efficient and quieter. Oh yeah. and they work.

Pros
  • Starters, chargers and mobile power packs
Cons
  • Minor problems
