This is a nice opener - for the price. There are several drawbacks when compared to other more expensive models, but if you’re looking for a decent ‘no-frills’ electric wine opener that won’t break the bank, this is a good one. It would be great to bring to a party, and just leave it with the hostess as a gift. You need 4 AA batteries. Of course you could use rechargeable batteries, which might be just the ticket if (like me) you’re tired of spending money on batteries, or environmentally conscious. But you will need to change them, unlike a built-in, USB rechargeable model.Once I put batteries in, I found that it worked at about the same speed as another (much) more expensive model I own. So plenty of power, and decent speed. When I removed it from the packaging, I noticed some oil had leaked out of the bottom. I’m not sure what it’s from, but I hope it’s not an indication that something has failed already. I guess time will tell – but if it does fail, I’ll come back and update this review. You must hold the button down the entire time you want the corkscrew to move. The lower, or ‘down’ button moves the corkscrew ‘down’ into the cork in a bottle, and draws it out of the bottle and into the opener.Pushing the ‘up’ button lifts the corkscrew out of the cork. The cork gets spit out gently onto your counter (or into your hand). There are no pretty lights or anything, and it’s all very basic. But it works, and it’s only roughly $10. I’m not sure how long it’ll last, but if I get a year out of it, I’ll be thrilled.Hope this helps.
