The ruler is easy to read, the graduations are engraved on the blade and very clear. If you have poor eyesight, the problem is in your eyes, not in the ruler. This means you have to go to the optician. The ruler is quite strong but not too thick, probably around 1mm thick. If I had a set of working calipers (dead battery) I would check this and give you a definitive one Provide answer.I grew up in the imperial system (actually called conventional US units) so I'm just getting used to the metric system. This is a good ruler but it slips over you so buy a ruler with a bottom out Cork or use clamps if using it for precise cuts I've had no problems with it at all it's a good buy.
