Please do not buy this collar. I don't understand such a high rating. The collar itself is made from skin-like foam that is easy for your kitty to chew and swallow. The "smell" everyone is talking about seems to be the collar itself, or maybe the glue that the rhinestones are attached to. (who knows if it's poisonous). Rhinestones are easy to peel off, so the kitten will undoubtedly chew and swallow them. The collar looks good. Unless you are using it solely for dress up photography, this collar should not be used for casual, unattended wear. This is NOT SAFE, especially for kitties who love to chew on everything! I am returning mine as they were for my adopted kittens.
