Shoes didn't match Athletic

I don't know if the SP on the label means anything but these shoes did NOT fit! I bought these for my boyfriend as a birthday present. I double checked his other sneakers and they were all too small for 8.5 shoes! His toes hurt when he tried them on. I would like to return them for a refund but am not in the US at the moment and my deadline is February 23rd.
