They seem to work - All Purpose Cleaner

I bought these to see if my 70's built house had been painted with lead paint. They work under ideal conditions, but for the average user the results are not accurate. Each swab is a plastic tube with two glass vials inside. The outer paper tube covers the plastic for safety. You squeeze the tube to break the vials; They break easily without undue force. After shaking to mix the two liquids, squeeze it a little so that the liquid comes out at the end of the tampon. Then rub it into what you're testing. The whole process is easy and quick. You need to prepare a test surface. For example, plaster must be scratched/notched to reveal all layers underneath and to breach all waterproof outer layers. A small note with control samples is included. When I tested the control sample, the swab turned very pale pink. So it worked, but barely. When I tested lead-free control surfaces, I got positive results from a few of them. On leaded steering surfaces I got areas ranging from pale pink to pink. In short, they err on the side of leadership. The chemicals in this product react with lead, but not *only* with lead. Of course, I had red paint to test, but I couldn't get any conclusive results. , you probably have no lead. But if you turn pink, you may or may not have lead. If you're really worried it's not what you need, call a repair company to test it on real equipment, including something like an X-ray fluorescence analyzer.
