Can't handle 4K/30P well

This device was my second attempt at running an HDMI signal from a laptop to a TV in two ways: either directly or through an AV receiver for better sound. My first device was a passive switch. It couldn't keep up with the 4K/30P signal. The TV went off on both routes. So I tried this splitter. It requires an external power supply and is compatible with the latest HDMI standards. I expected a smooth process. When streaming some HD YouTube videos, I still encounter video and audio snippets for 1-3 seconds every few minutes. When I'm not running HD video, I still experience brief pauses when switching between loaded web pages or when pages are switched too quickly. When waking up the laptop, the switch also takes about 15 seconds to "wake up". The length of my cables - 15 feet total from laptop to TV - shouldn't be a problem. The laptop has a native resolution of 4K/60P, the output is downscaled to 4K/30P in both directions on the same 65-inch TV. I was hoping for this unit to be USB powered from a laptop. It only activates when the laptop is powered on. However, the manufacturer recommends more milliamps than what laptop USB offers. Maybe an audio extractor would be better for my situation. HDMI from the laptop to the extractor, from the extractor - via HDMI to the TV and sound only to the AV receiver. If that doesn't work, I'm left with a direct laptop-to-TV connection.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Has flaws
