. Finding a good pickleball set can be very difficult. It's hard to know if you have good oars. Our family loves to play pickleball and we tested the Amazin' Aces against our existing high end paddles and an entry/mid range paddle and were surprised by the results. --- The weight . Are they too difficult, especially for young players? --- Aces weigh 10.3 ounces. You might think that 10.3 ounces isn't much, but if the paddle is too heavy it can be a problem. Here is the paddle we tested. Here's what we experienced. As an adult, the weight was fine and I love my 7.5 ounce Franklin Python. The lighter you go, the more expensive the paddle (usually). The Python I use is aluminum, we also have the Franklin Viper which is a carbon fiber paddle that weighs 8.2. Both cost a dime $60-90. We also have a Franklin Volt that weighs 10.5 and costs about $10. A lighter paddle is important, but that's not all. A lot depends on how the paddle is balanced. Aces feel great because of the longer grip. I'll post a review photo comparing the Franklin Volt which weighs almost the same but isn't as good. The longer handle gives the Amazin' Aces a better feel in my hand than the $10 Franklin Volt. It just feels really good. balanced in the queue. We let our kids play with our professional paddles and then play with Amazin' Aces. Our two children preferred Amazin' Aces. One of our kids likes our professional better, but that says a lot about Amazin' Aces. The kids didn't mind the paddle's 10.3 ounce weight and had a great time playing. When I played I thought the weight would be big. Problem. I was so used to our lighter paddles but this suited me just fine. I have a carpel tunnel and watch my wrists. --- Sound and Feel --- I get great joy when I hit the ball. Maybe I'm venting my aggressive feelings, I don't know. :) But I like it when feel and sound are connected to Pickleball. I love how the Amazin' Aces connect with the ball. The bounce as the ball hits the wood feels right and sounds great. Now compare this to the entry-level Franklin Volt racquet, which doesn't feel very good at impact. Maybe it's because the volt button isn't attached properly. The aces are very well packaged and have the best padding on the grip. It may also be that the slightly longer handle of the Aces contributes to the feel of the shot. I love that feeling here too. ---Handle Grip---The paddle grip is wrapped very well. Even our professional paddles are not well packed. We didn't find any issues with the top of the wrap (which is where we see most issues). It's snug and feels good in the hand. The grip is excellent and the soft ribs make the game even more enjoyable. A hand strap (or hanging loop) is handy but not essential. If you have people who tend to give up the paddle then this is not the paddle idea. --- Are there any disadvantages? --- There were too many things I thought could be improved. 1. I would like the edges around the paddle to be sanded better. They're not super luffy, but they did snag on some fabric I had in my pocket, making them harder to put in my pocket and making it easier for me to run my hand around the edges. It's not a big deal and I can fix it with very fine sandpaper, but I want it to be smooth already.2. Balls are good for beginners, but not great. We have 3 sets of Franklin balls and they fly like magic. We noticed that the Aces didn't fly as accurately as the Franklin. I had my kids play with both brands and they all picked Franklins as the best balls. That being said, the Aces are part of the kit and are fairly well priced, so it's hard to knock them out because of that. First, balls will not be a problem. FYI, there is no plastic protection around the rim of the paddle. Some racquets have this, so adjusting the racquet to stop a rolling ball will not damage the racquet. This is not negative, just keep that in mind. We tell the kids to be careful not to knock the bat --- Who is this for --- I think this is for those who want to start playing pickleball but don't want to buy a bunch of expensive equipment . and find that you don't like it, but you also want to buy something good. It's also great if you already have the gear and want an extra set for when friends and family come over and want to play with more people. I've uploaded a few photos to show how the size of the handle compares to the Franklin Volt's paddle and to show how well the handle wraps. The pattern has been provided for your reference.
