Review on Synology Bay DiskStation DS220 Diskless by Dejuan Stott

I usually build my own systems but this one (DS920+) was a lot cheaper to fix things this size than building new ones (used ones can vary a lot). The only thing I would have wished for was 10Gb ethernet. I can basically get 1GB line speed when transferring files back and forth with 4 8TB Seagate hard drives in SHR-1. The NAS CPU was running at 50% during 1080p transcoding (with subtitles), when parity and update were done a bunch of packages were installed. this letter: 1. If you are using Plex to do this, there is an additional step to enable hardware encoding (even if the hardware encoding box is checked). I guess since this NAS is so new at the moment (7/13/2020) the current versions haven't caught up with it yet. Following the instructions others found to enable hardware transcoding worked for me. Search for "reddit plex ds920 transcoding" and you will find it. If you choose not to do this fix, I suspect the issue will be addressed in later updates to the Plex package for that model. There's a flag they haven't set in their operating system. I'm not sure if there is any data on when this will be fixed (I suspect it will eventually be). There are several guides online that have successfully tested 16GB RAM modules (20GB total with 4GB on board). If you're looking to upgrade your RAM, this looks very promising. Otherwise I'm happy with this purchase so far.
