This is the second Ford 8N distributor I have purchased and they both had the same issue. Instead of returning this distro, I decided to disassemble it and find out what the problem was. The mechanical leaf spring proved too stiff for a proper feed curve from idle to 2000 max rpm. Each weight has two leaf springs. I removed one of these and the action works better, but still not perfect. With a little more effort I think I can fix the problem. A distributor that cannot advance the ignition is useless. It doesn't seem like the manufacturer was aware that the Ford 8N doesn't rev over 2000 rpm. The spring steel weight springs have been replaced with a 0.007 inch stainless steel single spring probe of the same size and the mechanical feed of the distributor now works perfectly.
