Special quality coarse grain from 1mm to 2mm. My wave generator blew around the pink sands of Fiji, revealing bare patches or high ridges. Special Grade allowed me to have minimal flow in the tank without bloating it; it is still small enough to be considered "sand". Don't be fooled into thinking that you can tolerate lesser flow just because of your sand. Please note the corresponding course and the relationship to the choice of substrate. Most sands that are smaller have niche applications, perhaps very deep (over 24 inches at least) or soft reef. The special strain allowed me to add minimal flow to my mixed reef while still looking good aesthetically and accommodating my fish and fish. Corals need a substrate. I wouldn't make a deep sand cushion with it. I have an inch and a half to two inch thick substrate and it does the job well.
