My wife and I bought it because our tap water is visibly dirty. We live next to a copper mine and a huge garbage dump. It seems clear that a lot of sewage and pollution from such sources ends up in the water supply. This filter has been providing us with great tasting, drinkable water for several months now. We've had this filter for 7 months now and the filters that came with it are still working (confirmed by the recent "red food coloring test"). And this is for a family of 5 with many eager visitors here and there. The first few times you fill the upper tank it will take a while to seep into the lower tank and it can give a slight hint of the different elements used to filter the water. But the time it takes to fill the lower reservoir gets shorter the longer you use the filter. And the taste of the filter elements disappears very quickly. This is an amazing filter. The only "complaint" I have about it is that it takes up a significant amount of counter space. Luckily we now have a lot of them. If you're short on counter space, you might want to consider one of the smaller versions. Also remember that this is a high filter. The top of the filter is probably about 12 or 18 inches HIGHER than the bottom of our cabinets.
