I decided to use a portable soldering iron to replace the old Radio Shack "Cold Heat" when using physical ones had business. This device wasn't too expensive, so I decided to give it a try. So far I've completed a project and it was working but inconsistently. I noticed that the tip of the iron was becoming loose and not heating up like it should. This caused the tip to fall apart. I wanted to see if my problems were related to a faulty tip, so I replaced it with a proprietary Radio Shack. You can find them here at Revain under ASIN: B073NWXZKY for around $6. After replacing it, the iron worked perfectly and I haven't had any problems since. A replacement tip for the broken one from the manufacturer would have been nice, but there was no way to contact them at the time. I suspect other 1 star ratings for this are due to defective/broken tips, but they can be replaced and are cheap. For simple projects where you may not have room to plug in a conventional iron, this seems to work. It's definitely better than the old cold heat.
