Review on Enhance safety on Busy Roads with Cygolite Hotshot Pro-150 Lumen Bike Tail Light: 6 Modes, Customizable Flash Speed, Compact & Water Resistant Design, USB Rechargeable & Secure Hard Mount by Mark Marcellus

Bright but flawed design, broke within a month.

This is my second Cygolite taillight and will probably be my last. I had a 2w cygolite hotshot rechargeable USB cable taillight that broke after 3 years which is acceptable for an electronic device. It broke in just 1 month. Such a shame. To make matters worse, I bought this light just before leaving for a bike trip abroad and had to ride over 500 miles without a taillight before I was able to find a decent taillight at my local bike shop. both taillights are the same so I suspect the design or a faulty part is to blame and Cygolite's quality department just hasn't noticed it yet. Basically what happens is I ride my bike for a few hours, turn off the lights when I'm done, and when I try to turn the lights on the next day, it won't come on. At first I thought it might be because the battery isn't that good and dies after a few hours of use, but I found that wasn't the case when I charged it overnight, used it for half an hour and when i tried to turn it on next time, it still won't turn on. So next time I tested it with only 5 minutes of use after a full charge and still the same. I finally found out what happened when someone at the hostel told me that my bike's taillight was on in the middle of the night. I was pretty sure I had turned it off, so it kind of magically turned back on after a while. I've tested this several times, if I turn it off and leave, it turns back on after a random amount of time. Maybe 5 minutes, maybe half an hour. You will never know. And of course that drains the battery and leaves you without a rear light the next time you ride your bike. In any case, I didn't bother contacting Cygolite about the first taillight that had this issue since I was out of the way. Warranty (3 years) but this new one broke within a month of use so I contacted them and explained to them that I'm in the middle of nowhere in Europe and need light ASAP. I also told them that I would send the broken unit back when I came back, but they told me that they couldn't send it to Europe because the shipping cost was $12. They sent a replacement to my friend who is still in the country who will be joining me in a week, so at least it was a good gesture. Ultimately, I don't think Cygolite is a bad company. They make amazing headlights, I have two of these, both bought from Revain, but I don't think I will ever buy a taillight from them again as they have a chronic problem and instead of trying to fix it right away to make it more convenient to make customers, they are worried about the shipping cost. This is not a saddlebag or bottle cage, this is safety gear and I expect it to be of the highest quality and the company will do everything in their power to ensure the safety of their customers.
