I used almost the entire bag on my dirty 15 gallon Fluval Flex tank. It's good enough not to look bulky, provide a lightweight fit and retain mud, but rough enough to prevent anaerobic bacteria and compaction. However, there were weird sticks and such in this sand which I had to select as I had to wash it out with a fine sieve. All my plants take it very well and I will most likely use it again for dirty or Wolstad aquariums. Keep in mind that it's very difficult to vacuum, it's basically just sand, not gravel. I recommend using a siphon to collect dirt from the surface. However, I did not see any debris on the surface of the sand. Detritus is good for planted aquariums anyway!
