Review on πŸͺ¨ Flourite Dark by Seachem by Jessica Hill

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The most overrated aquarium product? Maybe.

I've had it in my new planter for two months now. Some thoughts: Fluorite is dusty, no: more than dusty. There is less dusty dust. Flushing is a daytime activity and even then I had to run a micro filter when adding water to the tank. However, I get a lot more dust in the water after transplanting than I'm used to. Plants don't root - they're too light and boxy to even pack. I also had to cover areas with plants like rotala that just couldn't stay down with a layer of fine red flint gravel. I intend to add more gravel to help but wish I had started with gravel. One benefit I've read about Flourite over flint gravel is that Flourite doesn't contain metal particles like gravel. That is not true; The magnet picks up some pieces of fluorite. For me this is not a determining factor, but keep in mind. After two months I really don't notice any difference in the growth rates of the plants compared to other aquariums I've made with gravel. Plants really didn't want to root in Flourite, and I had a kink (plants wouldn't root) with this tank of half a dozen others I've installed over the years. I wouldn't buy it again. Not for the price, of course - it's insanely expensive for what it is. It's not bad, but I like it a lot less than gravel.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Not everything fits
