Review on Philips SHN2500 Noise Canceling Discontinued Manufacturer by Tutan Beatz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Superb quality for the price

My iPod earbuds, as they do, have decided to decay their slow sunset by introducing a grating hum into the right earpiece. So I went to Revain to look for a replacement and was very surprised to find that they were boasting about $15 noise canceling headphones. I was a little skeptical, especially after reading some of the reviews, but figured it couldn't be worse than my dying iPod headphones in the end. They arrived today and after a few hours of play I'm pleasantly surprised. It fits snugly in my ears (three different sized adapters) and the "noise canceling" unit isn't big enough to cause any discomfort. Without activating the "Noise Cancelling" function, the headphones didn't convince me, the sound was flat and muffled. But as soon as I flipped the switch I noticed a nice and deep resonance in the sound and a noticeable reduction in background noise. The sound quality is much better than the standard iPod headphones and the TV sound has been muted; I couldn't even hear my roommate trying to speak to me. However, I'm not sure if "Noise Cancellation" is really what it claims to be. Since I've never been able to afford expensive headphones that can produce this effect, I don't know exactly how it works. But I do know that just turning the headphones on without playing any music doesn't eliminate noise any more than sticking your fingers in your ears. When listening to music, however, it is at least moderately efficient and offers a full sound experience. This feature adds some noise, but not enough to be annoying, and in fact it's almost completely unnoticeable unless you're listening to a quiet passage, in which case the music itself sounds clear. All in all a good buy. for $15.
