Review on 3M 568 Positionable Mounting Adhesive by Amy Mcleod

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Safe positional, very, very sticky. Leaves a line of glue when item is removed

I ordered this glue to use in card making to glue layers of cardboard together. I was hoping that the "positional" element would give me the ability to adjust the layers if they aren't perfectly positioned. Then use a scraper to create a permanent bond. My experience so far is that it seems to work. First, I cut a strip of glue-coated backing paper about 0.5 inch wide. I placed it on the back of my A2 card, centered it, and then pressed it down. It's a really permanent mount and I was able to adjust it a bit if I didn't push too hard. The problem with this method is that the adhesive easily detaches from the backing film, forming sticky threads. it has to be managed somehow. It also made the scissors very sticky. The next attempt was to unroll just a few inches of glue, place it on a self-healing mat, and use a rotary cutter to cut out a strip. It didn't work at all as the cutter quickly became covered in glue and the glue got onto the self-healing mat - and it's still there. Haven't tried the adhesive remover but this one might remove it. I then attempted to place the top layer of cardboard along the edge of the glue, trying to get about 0.5 inch of glue on the edges of the backing. Cardboard. Again, strands of adhesive detach from the backing and create a mess. My final use was to use the glue the way it was meant to be used - by placing whole pieces of A2 card onto the glue and using a backing sheet. stick to everything Works fine but again those sticky strands of glue make a mess. After these experiments, I have to believe that those who use it to attach photos or artworks must also experience the "sticky threads" phenomenon, so I don't think this is just mine. unorthodox attempts to use it in a way not previously approved by 3M. Since this is a significant investment, I will not give it up. I was thinking of chilling it - will it tame the strings? However, I don't know if cooling down causes other problems, e.g. B. wetting of the paper backing and / or impairment of the adhesive properties. I think you can cut off a small piece and try. . . Between discovering this item on Revain and ordering it, I thought about how I might use it as it looked like it could be a very affordable and effective solution to the cardboard layers dilemma, allowing me to position the item easily to adjust. I'm not giving up because if I get this right I seem to have so many uses. I will report on progress.
