Review on Tokina AT-X PRO DX 11-16mm Ultra-wide Angle Lens for Nikon - AT-X116PRDXN by Christie Miller

One of my favorites

Probably one of my favorite lenses. I use it for dramatic effects, get close to the subject for a distorted or close-up image, and use it extensively for landscapes and flashes. This lens is also great for architecture and real estate. My replica of this lens is perfectly sharp at every aperture I can (unscientifically) determine. This is not a scientific assessment. There are many 5 star comments here and I agree with most if not all. I mainly use this lens on Nikon D90. It's great build quality, heavy for a smaller lens and built like a tank. The only downside to this lens is the excessive flare. Sometimes you have it and sometimes you don't from any light source. My advice: Don't shoot directly into the sun or other light sources, but use a high-quality UV or ND filter. It didn't stop me and I like little flashes here and there ;-) . I'm not a professional photographer, just an advanced amateur. I tried the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens for Nikon DSLRs at the same time as Tokina. Sigma had to be sent back even though it was a lot cheaper. I really wanted to like the Sigma for the price, but felt like the IQ just wasn't there. Some images appeared soft or the color was not quite right. The Tokina 2.8 aperture combined with razor sharp images sealed that for me. I repeat the previous caveats: this lens has no built-in motor. That means you need a camera with a motor to control the lens' autofocus. Cameras like D90, D7000, D300, etc. have such a motor. Consult the manual or google a reputable online source to find out the features of your particular model. However, as I've read from previous reviewers, this lens is easy to focus manually. Set it to infinity and it will pretty much focus on your background. I used it manually with my Nikon D40. I am very happy about this miracle. I highly recommend it. I've included a link to some photos taken with this lens in the comments section to help.
