BEVERAGES Batteries, frequent power outages requiring TV/device restarts

I'm a *big* Roku user (owned by N1, two models of a second gen, currently with 3, 4 and TCL Roku TV between the two houses). For my TCL TV I used a Wi-Fi remote control and an IR remote control. There's no power button on the Wi-Fi remote and this TV works terribly via IR, often missing clicks when aiming directly at fresh batteries (not sure if it's a remote or receiver). This should replace this (with the loss of the headphone jack to boot). Just plugged in and worked for a couple of days, then only "worked" via IR (similar poor performance so I'm assuming it's a TV). To my surprise, however, a few weeks later the supplied batteries died. I have now used at least two sets of batteries since I bought it. I have *several* WiFi-based remotes, all use AA batteries, not AAA, and while none of them last as long as a regular IR remote, they do last longer than about 8 packs that I've replaced. This is the second replacement in this pack and will quickly represent the vast majority of my AAA battery purchases at home. maybe it will be fixed one day). Even though I *refused* to plug the WiFi back in, it *still* exploded and ejected the last set of batteries. So. It's an overpriced remote, resulting in you spending a lot more than that price on batteries over its (hopefully short) lifespan.
