As you can see in the photos I used it UP DOWN! I installed it in a 1990 Toyota pickup. The bracket fits like a glove, it's the first bracket that doesn't get in the way of the shifter. The base mount can still rotate from side to side. HINDGE RELEASE can still be used straight from the front if you need to drop your hand. This is the best option I've found so far for attaching a phone to older Toyota trucks. I used the adhesive disc that comes with the mount, not the SUCTION feature. (Technically, the suction cup is attached to an adhesive disc and then glued to the truck. NOTE: In the picture taken in DRIVERS VIEW mode, the shifter is in the 5th position, which is the closest forward position to the phone.
