Review on ☕ Cuisinart CHW-12P1 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System - Black/Stainless Steel by Josh Parson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Broke the first one, bought a new one.

I give it 5 stars but I will reserve that this is for a 12 cup coffee maker and hot water dispenser combo. I don't know if I would give the individual components (coffee and water) 5 stars, but I'll add an extra star for sheer convenience and admit that it took a few compromises to get both functions in one device . I'm on the second now. The first served a little more than 3 years (unfortunately, the warranty period has just expired). I made the first purchase because, in addition to coffee drinkers, we also have tea drinkers in the household. The first unit worked perfectly for three years and then there was a leak on the hot water side. But given that we have 1000 days of service I think it's quite cost effective. Various coffee makers I've had over the years seem to have the same lifespan. I considered replacing it immediately, but read some negative reviews that suggested bad taste on the water side (an issue I've never had). We only used it for coffee but after a few months the clock/programmer broke. We really missed hot water so I decided to take the plunge and order another. I'm happy to report that the new one doesn't have any bad taste issues. The only problem I had with the new one was that the basket of coffee bags wouldn't snap into place. This could explain some of the negative reviews describing the pop-up lid and/or spilling issues when the pot is pulled out before the brewing process is complete. Luckily I kept my old basket and it snaps in perfectly. I called customer service and they sent me a new car. The difference in the position of the lever that locks the basket was only 0.35 mm, but it was enough. For the record, I'll cover a few other features and specifics. The hot water side of my unit reads 186 degrees Fahrenheit on my digital thermometer. The adjustable carafe heating temperature is positive, which I did not have with other coffee machines. The time interval in which the coffee stays warm after brewing is programmable. Water tends to splash out of the bowl. the hot water side if you slide across the counter too quickly (we keep it under the cabinet but have to pull it out to add coffee and water). Some of the front panel lettering has been erased from my first unit over time. Water on the coffee side The reservoir is awkward to fill, but it's fairly easy to use a 2 liter soda bottle instead of a carafe. I had some issues with water running through the coffee maker, but that turned out to be a problem with Kroger. Filter. Other brand filters will do the job. Overall I am very happy with this unit and would recommend it to people who want a programmable drip coffee maker and hot water dispenser. Update: There was some disagreement in the Q&A section. about whether the water was poured over the coffee as a single jet or a shower head, so I added a photo.
