The size of this backpack is ideal for hiking. I was thinking of one of the smaller ones but it has room for first aid, an extra rain sweater, lunch and other small items I wouldn't be able to carry on my 20 year old camel back. Others have complained about the sealing and yes you have to be very careful to make sure the lid is perfectly horizontal to sit on the bag but when you do it closes nicely. It's very comfortable with 2 liters of water and some gear and so much dryer on my back that the water, which was a third made up of ice cubes and then brought to near freezing temperatures, stayed cold throughout the entire 5 hour hike and surprisingly didn't the taste of plastic in general. . I like that the hose is detachable - makes cleaning easier and cools the bladder. Couldn't be happier.
