Review on Dell E2414H Widescreen Discontinued Manufacturer Wide Screen Monitor by Steven Wright

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty good for me

Bought the monitor in December 2013 for $120 which seems like a good price for a monitor of this size. Not the most feature-rich monitor, but it was definitely an upgrade from my 19-inch monitor that came with my Dell desktop. Set up was easy and I noticed that it's a lot lighter than the 19" monitor it replaced. When first used, the resolution seemed a bit bland. As mentioned in other reviews, it didn't come with a DVI cable so I just used my existing VGA cable to connect. After many hours of fiddling with the settings, I couldn't get the same quality as my previous monitor. I replaced the VGA cable with a DVI cable and voila! The resolution was much better than before and much sharper than my previous monitor. Now the power button does not work properly. Like it's set in but won't pop out. Plugging and unplugging works, but is far from perfect. I was able to find that if I press the menu button over the power button, you can hear the power button reappear and it works. The problem is that every time I want to turn the monitor on or off I have to press the menu button to release the power button. I'm afraid when the "Menu" button goes off; There aren't many buttons on the front of the monitor. Otherwise the monitor works well and I like having the extra space. Revane says I need to contact Dell for warranty support on the power button issue, so we'll see how well Dell responds.
