I picked these on a FB recommendation from a walking group I'm a member of. I was traveling by plane in August and needed a set that folds up and didn't really want to spend a lot of money. They worked great - on that first trip. On the second walk, the part of the lower segment that merges into the middle segment bent slightly when the tip got caught between two stones. Honestly, I didn't find it a lot of effort, but yes, it bent. However, the pillar appeared to be quite strong. On my third trip just last weekend a friend borrowed them and they broke. Although they are not too expensive, they are really short-lived. I mean these are trekking poles and you can get hooked here and there. The fact that it bent and then broke after a very short use means to me that in this case you get what you pay for.
