I bought them to specifically wash in the dishwasher. As there are 4 of us in the house we use straws and the cold season is coming and I want to wash them in the dishwasher to make sure germs and nasties are removed. I did this for 2 weeks and the slow 6 I used looked like a winding road! I tried to put them only on the top shelf and still - it looks like a winding road. I wish I could send them back but this is what it looks like from the returns window! Disappointed in that. Also, they're long, have a ring to hold them in the cup, and are transparent so you can see if they're clean. I hate straws for washing hands!
