Review on Vintage Copper Wheel Kerosene Lighter - Windproof Brass Trench Lighter for Collection, Decor, Gift by Darrell Ricks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the best lighters

I have quite an extensive collection of lighters (Zippos, IMCO, Corona Old Boy etc) and this little lighter is a solid weight and like IMCO easy to fill and has a good wick cap to to reduce fuel evaporation. What sets this lighter apart is the well-made flintlock mechanism. If you look closely at the side of the flint wheel you will see that there is a notch with a thin metal cam on one side. This graduated lock together with the weighted thumb pressure on the firing pin provides a very smooth and stable flint firing with a great positive feel. The only thing you miss compared to IMCO is the ability to light and draw a lit burning arc as a standalone candle or igniter for a campfire. But I think the design aesthetics and the wonderful construction of the flint starter make up for those minor flaws. Overall, it ranks easily in the top 5 trench lighters. Other people thought that the extra small piece of metal that came with the two extra O-rings was the wick or flint wheel cleaner, it's actually an extra metal cam that meshes with the gear flint wheel. ?Maybe this part wears out? One final note, some reviewers have complained about fuel leaks. In my hands this happened when I supersaturated a cotton ball with lighter fluid and then when the unit got hot on first use the heat and expansion of the fuel caused the leak even with the fuel chamber screwing up. turned very hard on the o-ring. This resolves well after a few uses and is not a problem as long as you are careful not to overfill the fuel tank.
