A bit difficult to use as a lighter, coordination is required :) For example, it is better to be quick so that the metal body does not feel too hot. I basically bought this lighter by accident. I collect vintage lighters and this one seemed like a replica that I could carry around and not be upset if I lost or broke it. Excellent little lighter. The wick cap protects the wick and prevents the fuel from evaporating. And it's spring loaded, so you get a very positive, steady spark every time you open it. In comparison, I've invested in a Douglass Field-S lighter (which costs many times more than this lighter) and it usually takes 2-3 openings of the wick cap to get enough spark to ignite the fuel. I bought an IMCO reproduction here and it's not the quality they are known for - unfortunately it broke after a month .
