DeWalt makes very good tools in their new 20vmax line. This is the first time I've started adding new tools (rarely "essential") just to add them to my collection. They are all so good I can't stop buying them. Having a decent collection of batteries allows me to buy inexpensive "tool only" versions. From time to time I have to drill or drive in tight spaces. I used to use hand tools all the time. The drill is strong and durable. The engine is smooth and so is the handling. It has two speed ranges and good, precise trigger control. They can easily crawl at a snail's pace. The cartridge of this drill is interesting. It's hard to explain, but the way it locks when turned by hand is simpler than most and appears to have a positive lock setting, unlike other cartridges that require a full turn. It's also a very small chuck, probably to reduce the footprint given the drill's inherent nature of being used in small spaces. For a typical chisel (about 2 inches), the bit size is less than 6 inches. Of course you lose space with the length of screw you screw in, but you can also switch to a short nozzle to get almost an inch. The only problem I've noticed with the drill is that you can't push very hard from behind. This is due to the length or grip and leverage gained by holding such a tool. However, this is not a defect in the way the tool is used.
