GOOD BUT NOT ENOUGH FOR SECURITY

I have been cycling for over 40 years and have tried many different bike mirrors. I've been using the Cycleaware Viewpoint Eyewear Mirror for years, which fits in your glasses and uses with a slight turn of the head. Many riders found it difficult to set up, and I suspect that's because this very small mirror doesn't work well with heavily curved goggles. Well I changed my glasses and found that the Cycleaware Viewpoint Eyewear Mirror wasn't very effective so I tried this bike eye mirror. I've made several trips with it and I think it's quite good. Positives: (1) Once you've installed it, it's easy to set up and offers a pretty good field of view; (2) it appears to be constructed fairly well and I expect it to be fairly durable; (3) it is a fairly inconspicuous item and has a lower computer vision factor than a helmet, goggles, or steering wheel mirror. Now for the cons: (1) you can only see directly behind the bike where you normally want to look, but it's not particularly useful in corners; I was used to a mirror on my head with glasses and was able to scan the area with a slight turn of my head; (2) Note to designers: Most new bikes have thicker down tubes than this product; Still, the plastic is fairly flexible, and I was able to put it on and buckle it; this needs to be changed or the manufacturer should offer a wider mount; it doesn't affect functionality as far as I can tell; (3) moving your hands from the top of the handlebars to the drops changes your viewing angle and you may lose some or all of your rearward vision; I don't use aero/tribars and I suspect it might be difficult, but I have no idea; (4) the mirror breaks when I load it in the back of the car because the mirror is on the left, but to put the bike on its side the switch must be up; As said, it's pretty easy to set up, so this isn't a serious issue; once adjusted, it holds its position very well; (5) Some found that their bodies obstructed vision, and this is true when coasting with your left leg stretched down; Otherwise, it's a pretty good rear view when kicking, and all you have to do is move your left foot down when moving down. (6) it may take time to get used to looking down while maintaining control of the bike; I've used a head mirror for so long that when I look in the mirror I notice a bit of a learning curve. While there are more cons than pros, I plan to continue using this mirror because it's better than any other mirror I've tried. I find that a mirror is very important for many of the places I drive and all the negatives combined do not outweigh the usefulness and functionality of this well designed product. If you're an avid cyclist (70-250 miles a week or more!) you might want to try this as you know it takes a little getting used to. I recommend it. June 11, 2015 UPDATE OK, so I've been using this mirror for a few dozen trips now, and my early impressions (and hopes) of this mirror have definitely changed. I found looking in the mirror far more distracting and very often I can't see anything, either because I'm standing around a corner or because the car is so close to my left that it's already got out. fields of view. I also really miss the spontaneous head rotation that a mirror with glasses or a helmet gives you, which also gives you a lot more control over the direction you want to look. At the same time, this still means that you are at risk in 30-40% of driving situations. It's not enough that I feel comfortable relying on this article for personal safety. So my search for the perfect bike mirror will continue, even if I intend to leave it on my bike for the time being. However, I cannot recommend this item more as its usefulness is more limited than I initially thought, although I wanted to believe that it would work much better than it actually does. ________________________________________________________________ Bike dated July 11, 2017 and downgraded to two stars. I would have thought that the manufacturer has since made some changes to improve functionality, but I didn't see this. I went for a very small helmet mirror, which I don't think you can even buy, but I found the ability to scan behind you with a slight turn of your head is still way better than any bike. hanging solution. I've never tried a wrist mirror, but don't feel like it as a small mirror next to the eye seems to make a lot more sense. I understand some people will like this framed mirror; It's a pretty well thought out product for what it is, but it just isn't for me.
