This surge protector was purchased on the advice of our local appliance mechanic. We had several power outages in late summer 2020, one of which appears to have damaged the high voltage circuit board on our (10 year old) fridge. The refrigerator no longer worked reliably and had to be replaced. We installed this surge protector behind a new refrigerator to prevent the same scenario from happening again. Since then we've had several brief power outages where the surge protector isolated the cooling and seemed to do its job. We were glad we bought a second fridge for the new chest freezer we bought to put in our basement (as part of our strategy to treat the old broken fridge before replacing it). In an ideal world this would be a bit thinner, but you'd be hard pressed to find a thinner design.
