Our family is heavy into modern board games.games you don't normally find in the big box stores. This is one of those games that is starting to make its way into those big box stores as a modern board game.> I love a modular board, which increases the replayability. And then if the board is double-sided it can function for even more combinations. For example, many games I own have modular and double-sided boards. Unfortunately, this isn't the case here, which is a lost opportunity.But the board we do get is easy to read and works for this game fine enough.+ The game does come with an insert that fits the pieces just fine.> There are several factions, but another missed opportunity is that there is no difference between faction abilities and powers is a real minus.they are all the same. The good of this, is that it keeps the game simple regardless of your chosen color/faction and there are no additional rules to read; thus no issues with 'faction balance'. The downside is it keeps the game simple.maybe too simple and becomes a missed opportunity to add an interesting strategic layer to the game.-- You will NOT get the boards to fit back in the box unless you stack them in a particular order. You may consider labeling the backs of the boards so you know what order to get them back in the box. Another lost opportunity especially after providing such a nifty insert.> If you are looking for quality, hard plastic miniatures, then this is not your game. The price point should set the expectation that you're getting more bendy, rubbery types of miniatures. Yes, you can still paint them if you so desire, but you may find the figures once primed are still very tacky.which is my experience with another game I had (yes, past tense) that had similar feeling rubbery figures.+ This game is very easy to learn and learn quickly. I'd say ages 8+ should have no problem.> You can play this 2 player but it definitely works better for the tension to keep it at 3 or even better 4 players.+ Reminded me of another popular 'island' game as parts of the island start disappearing, which does help increase the tension.> Win conditions mean you are the last person standing with at least one of your figures in the middle/center map section. Only having one way to win will further reduce the playability. But an expansion could enhance that with secret player win objectives. For example, we are playing the heck out of an alien survival/semi co-op game and one aspect (there are several) that makes it competitive is every player has a secret win objective.+ The game plays around 45min, which means even at a 4-player count there isn't a lot of downtime, which is a big bonus for our gaming group.OVERALL:For $25, at the time of this writing, you'll get several good, satisfying games in under an hour.For 2-4 players and something that can be played with a wide range of age groups, then that is worth it to me and definitely a step up from many of the big box store games, some of which shouldn't even be considered 'games' but wasting time with random chance (a topic for a different review).
