Review on BRK Brands HD6135FB Hardwire Battery Safety & Security by Adam Mazie

Is the job safe?

The heat alarm in our garage, over 6 years old, started beeping at regular intervals. It is connected to the electrical system. Changing the backup battery twice didn't help either. I replaced the alarm with this new device and it no longer beeps. This device is intended for a garage or similar location where something common (car exhaust) could trigger a smoke alarm. I first opened the garage door to let in daylight and then turned off the electricity in the garage. I unscrewed the old block and disconnected it, noting how the wires were connected (black-black, white-white and orange [appliance]-red [ceiling]) - saving the wire nuts. The new model had a different mounting plate. I unscrewed the screws, unscrewed the old one, screwed in the new one, tightened the screws. Then I connected the wiring with spare nuts and screwed the unit onto the bracket. Switched on, tried the "test” button – alarm throughout the house, of course. The biggest challenge was working overhead on the stairs. Looking back, we can say that the wires for the device are modular. I could probably disconnect the existing cables from the old device and plug them into the new device, saving a ton of hassle.
