I removed the super drive from my Macbook Pro 5.1 when installing the second hard drive container. It was listed as a regular purchase along with a trolley case, so I bought it at a price that would allow me to use the matching optical drive on my Mac. This allows me to install when booting from disk, so the functionality is perfect. Cons: This case is pretty well made (as good as it was for $8), but since it appears to be versatile - it fits many optical drives - the fit wasn't ideal. First, the screw holes weren't in the same location as on the Superdrive. One screw is in exactly the right place, the second wasn't even close. I used a screw to attach the drive to the case and just handled it gently. Second, the Superdisk isn't as thick as the spec says for the inside of this case, so I just took an anti-static plastic bag, folded it up, and put it inside. drive housing. This prevented the drive from rattling inside the case. Third, the case is made for a tray-type optical drive, not a slot-type one, so the front is completely open for the mechanism. It doesn't bother me as I'll be using this drive intermittently - mostly to install the OS or a few apps I have on the drive - so that's fine. Considering the Macbook Pro's low price and great functionality, I still think it's worth it, especially if you don't use Superdrive on a daily basis.
