Review on πŸ”§ OWON B35T Plus Multimeter – True RMS Measurement, Bluetooth BLE 4.0 (Android & iOS), & Offline Data Recording by James Sevenfourgd

Great value for money, good for testers

Great value for money. This thing has a lot of features for the price. The data logging part works great. This is the only data logger I've seen that can be run from a phone/tablet. Most data loggers must be started from a laptop (lascar). Most Bluetooth meters do not have offline storage capability, they require the device to remain connected. With Owon, you cannot start data registration without a mobile device. However, this does not require the device to continue enrolling. When it's done, return to the switch and download the data. You can also stop the registration at any time by pressing and holding the Bluetooth button and the data generated will be safe. It generates a CSV file that looks a bit strange, but you can easily clean it up with Excel. Bluetooth connectivity works on all three levels of my home. Please note that Bluetooth reception will be affected by the presence or absence of a phone case. I've tried a few other data logging and bluetooth meters that were way more expensive and this one actually seems to work without the downsides. I mainly use it for the data logging function; I already have six other measuring devices for different purposes. Everything I read was accurate enough for me. It runs on AA batteries, which is a big plus for me because of the data logging. The manufacturer states 170 hours of battery, so you can keep track of a week. I charge batteries in it. The included thermocouple was subject to reading loss when struck or moved. It does include a K-type adapter socket though, so it works great with my K-type hardware kit. You won't find anything cheaper with this many features - I've spent hours looking. I have compared this instrument to Mooshimeter (bought and returned), Testo 770-3 (existing - no offline capability), Fluke 289, 902FC, 375FC, Southwire 15190T, Uni-T 71D. I didn't buy the last 3 brands but I have a Uni-T 61D and it works great for connected logging. If it dies, which is always a problem with cheap devices, I'll update my review. Negative reviews typically relate to an unexpectedly short lifespan, which at this price point is likely to come with a failure rate of 10 percent or more -- that's the risk you're taking if you don't buy the optional Revain warranty.
