I have been using pH meters for over 15 years. When I first started using it, I went to YouTube to find out how to calibrate it. I watched some videos and said "never touch the electrode" (glass bulb). Based on this instruction, when the pH tester started not reading for a long time, I replaced it. When I used the cheapness for less than $10, the exchange was not a problem. When I started using a much better gauge with interchangeable bottom ends, replacement parts cost a lot more than the cheap ones. Enough time has passed since I first got the meter and now I thought there are ways to clean them now. One of my pH meters took about 15 minutes to set a reading. I cleaned it immediately when my cleaning kit arrived. Now it takes less than 5 minutes to get readings. Too bad I didn't know about probe cleaning years before probe cleaning. I've spent a lot of money replacing dirty gauges.
