These bins have a mesh bottom instead of a solid bottom. You can fill them from the bottom and there is a lid to close the twister, but I worry about the oils melting and sloshing out of the container in the summer or on a plane. I will keep them for our personal home (not for travel purposes) but I would not give them as gifts or take them outside of the home. I was just about to make Gift Lotion Bars so I guess I'll have to back-order others that have a hard bottom. I mistakenly bought them thinking I had bought them before as they were recommended.
